12 Weeks!

So this is what happens when you don't know you are pregnant...you end up being 12 weeks along :) Okay, I had an idea I was pregnant on Mia's birthday when I suddenly thought I was going to throw up after eating some cereal, then I almost gagged while brushing my teeth, and then got really hot legs in the car on they way home from Mia's last dress fitting and had to take off my socks. So that was my first tip and I just thought I wasn't feeling well or it was nerves for Mia's upcoming wedding. However, I really was pretty sure I was pregnant that day but I didn't want to think about it because 1. it was Mia's birthday (yes, all of those things stated above happened on Mia's birthday, Oct. 5), 2. Mia's wedding was 4 days away and I was not going to do anything to take away from her special time, and 3. I wasn't sure I was ready to be pregnant again.

So fast forward 9 days to my birthday (Oct. 14) and what do I do to celebrate my 33rd year??? I pee on a stick and it INSTANTLY turns positive. By instant I mean it line that shows you are pregnant showed up before the control line had a chance to show up! I call the doctor and schedule an appointment (they can't see me until Nov. 3) so I wait. At this point I'm thinking I'm just barely pregnant so it's not really a big deal. I get a note from the doctor's office saying they are pushing my appointment back one week. So by the time I finally get to my appointment day they tell me that based on my last menstrual cycle I'm about 11 weeks along....WHAT!!!!! How did this happen! Impossible I tell them, Mike thinks they are right because it was strange that all of the sudden I started feeling sick. I schedule my ultrasound for the following Friday and that's when we see BABY FEET! Not the lima bean I'm expecting to see. Folks, there on the screen was a tiny baby with a heartbeat of 171 beats per minutes (bpm)! A baby that was measuring in at 11 weeks 4 days. HOLY CRAP! I basically missed my whole first trimester. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it was certainly strange.

It's so strange to not have realized for so many weeks that I was pregnant. I had no symptoms like I did with Max. I was able to eat salad and vegetables, opening the fridge or going near the sink did not make me gag, I only had a few days of feeling pretty sick, no sore boobs, I didn't eat everything that was in an arm's reach.

So here we are at 12 weeks along, one week she of the end of my first trimester. CRAZINESS!

We took my first belly picture last night, I seem much bigger than my 12 week picture with Max. I'll post both pictures later so you can compare.

Here's to the first post on the happenings of Baby #2. This pregnancy already feels different from Max's so it will interesting and exciting to see how they are similar and different.

The dairy is closed.

Two years, two weeks and one day ago I nursed Max for the first time. Tonight, I nursed him for the last time. I'm excited to be finished nursing but I'm also sad to lose that special bonding time we've had for such a long time. I know we will continue to have special bonding times, but when you've done something this intimate for such a long time, it's sad to see it go.

When I got pregnant with Max I knew I was going to nurse, but I figured it would be for 6 months and then I'd be so over it. Six months came and I realized how much I loved it, how much Max loved it and how much money it was saving us so I figured I'd keep it up for a year. At some point in time I read that pediatricians are now recommending moms nurse for the first two years of life so once I gotten to a year I didn't see the point in stopping there. Max had no interest in giving it up and I knew all the health benefits he and I were both getting (I mean I lost 50 pounds!) so why give up a good thing.

I got a lot of questions as to why I was continuing to nurse past his first birthday, but I knew why I was doing it and didn't feel bad or ashamed about it.

I am thrilled that I have been able to nurse for as long as I have! I think it's a major accomplishment and I am proud to have been able to give Max all of the benefits of two years of nursing.

I love him more than anything and would do anything to make him happy and healthy! It's been an amazing two years, two weeks and one day. Max and I have gone through some rough patches but for the most part it's been smooth sailing.

Thanks or sticking in there with me buddy! I love you!

2 Year Update

Max had his 2 year checkup today. Max is 34.75 inches tall, 28 pounds and his head is 50.3 cm. He's doing perfectly well and the doctor is still amazed at his vocabulary, the fact that he can count to 13, and can recite the alphabet and recognize letters.

While we were there today I was telling the doctor how Max knows how to spell his name and the next thing I know Max is saying "M A X, Max."

We're so fortunate to have such a healthy, happy, intelligent, funny little guy!

Two down one to go!

Thursday Max and I officially became once a day nursers. We are now only nursing before bed and I'm guessing that by Thanksgiving we'll be done nursing completely. It's gone really well. We've had a few sad days but overall he's handled it really well.

He will sometimes ask to nurse, but I say that we aren't nursing at that time and then he smiles and says "read books."

I'll be sad when that last night of nursing comes but I'm REALLY excited to not have to wear nursing bras anymore!

Happy Birthday to You Sweet Boy!

November 4, 2007--the moment I fell in love!

November 4, 2008--we made it through our first year!

Two years ago you came into our lives and I never knew how incredible life with you would be! You are the sweetest, kindest, sweetest mannered, intelligent, funny and loving little boy anyone could ever ask for.

You amaze me every day and I can't believe all the things you are doing now! You have an amazingly large vocabulary! You can count to 13 consistently, you know all of your letters (we're still working at recognizing them, but you are rock solid on the letter O). You are doing such a great job with potty training too. You are so sweet and use please, thank you, I'm sorry and many other kind phrases without being prompted. You know your colors, the words to so many songs and you have remembered so many books.

You are constantly engaging in the world around and are inquisitive and want to know how everything works. You love to play with trucks and tractors, basketballs, all art supplies, and you are wonderful at playing by yourself and I love watching you use your imagination. I love when you call me mom sometimes. I love listening to you talk whether it's to me, Daddy, your friends or your toys.

I love snuggling with you in the morning and reading to you at nap and bedtime (and all those other times during the day). I love it when you use your very loud voice, it makes me laugh. It also makes me laugh when you use your very deep voice as well as your whisper voice. I love hearing you laugh, it's infectious! You are ticklish beyond belief, but love to be tickled!

You are kind to all of your friends and are a very good sharer. You are an endless supply of hugs and kisses. You are so helpful around the house and love to cook (mixey, mixey as you call it). You are able to dress yourself and are very proficient with zippers on your coat, pants, pajamas, etc.

My life is infinitely better because you are a a part of it. I am so proud and honored to be your mommy. I love you more than you'll ever know and I would do anything to see you smile. You are amazing and I look forward to watching you grow up my sweet little boy!

Love always,
Mommy

Birthday Pictures

A birthday party recap will be coming soon, but to tide you over check out the party pictures in the photo gallery.
I will let you know that Mike and I made both of these cakes without the use of a shaped cake pan! We totally get parent-of-the-year awards for this :)

At Long Last

I know I've been promising pictures of Max in his tuxedo since before Mia's wedding. We still haven't gotten a new camera so I've been relying on my very wonderful friends to share their pictures with me. Thank you so much to my friend Tracy for sending me these great pictures from the Halloween Party we went to on Tuesday as well as from last nights Trick-or-Treating in the mall.

Without further ado....here is Mr. Handsome!

He really enjoyed playing in the cupboard during the party :)

Max and all of his friends waiting to go adventure out and participate in a mini-Trick-or-Treat.

The ever so dapper Max Trick-or-Treating in the mall last night. He added the hat himself :)

Tomorrow we're celebrating Max's birthday with family and friends at a local children's store in town. Check them out www.spelastore.com. Be on the lookout for more birthday fun!
